There are a handful of things that are guaranteed to bring a smile to my face at the moment, in the face of his horrid weather (for serious, weren’t we supposed to enjoy a couple months of sunshine before the icy winter descends upon us?).
Grand Theft Auto is proving an effective antidote to the cold, as are oversized trackies, uggs and my Thai delivery guy who arrives with a toothless guffaw, rain, hail or shine.
Am also enjoying Say Anything’s Ol’ Dirty Bastard cover on the new Punk Goes Crunk CD. Max Bemis has the hottest dork voice going at the moment and Say Anything’s new album In Defense Of The Genre is out June 7. GET EXCITED!
The other thing floating my boat is seeing Against Me live. Those fuckers were so good on Saturday night at the Forum that as the lights rose post-encore I felt somewhat inclined to spark up post-coital cigarette or something to that effect. No band can match these guys live. Drummer Warren’s permanent grin from beneath his lumberjack beard, guitarist Andrew’s sweat soaked performance and even Tom Gabel’s sly grins from behind the mic all gave the distinct impression of a band who were enjoying Saturday night’s performance every bit as much as the first show they ever performed many years ago in some Gainesville burrow. That said, it was disappointing to hear the Sunday afternoon Arthouse show so many of us oldies desperately longed to attend could only attract a small crowd of underage punters. Kids today…
