Contrary to many of my many music-loving mates, I’ve never been one to very eagerly anticipate the release of my favourite bands’ new albums. Of course, the thought of an entire album of new material to sink your fanatical fangs into is alluring, but it’s the apprehension regarding said new material that for the most part makes me sick to my stomach.

I reckon the burden that each great band bears following each great album increases exponentially throughout their career. It’s as if the possibility of my favourite bands unexpectedly cranking out a clanger of Less Than Jake’s ‘In With The Out Crowd’ proportions is infinitely more concerning than the perhaps more likely scenario of them producing something incredible.

Take Strung Out’s impending album Blackhawks Over Los Angeles. Like a drawn out thriller, approaching climax, first we heard track Downtown then just weeks ago we painfully dissected cover art theorising the ways in which the asymmetrical layout may suggest an adventurous album of angular guitars (or was that just me?).

But then, this week Strung Out’s adoring public heard Calling, and I think it’s safe to say, collectively lost their/our shit. The sweet, sweet melodies are still there, wicked drumming (not as in the colloquial equivalent of ‘cool’ but as in, Jordan Burns actually drums like the motherfucking devil), and as predicted a heavy, unabashed dose of face-melting metal.

Things are looking unambiguously up!!

Uber fans like my-desperate-self should head to the band’s Merch.com store and preorder the CD/Shirt combo which gets ya the album (bonus track included) with a spanky new tshirt designed by Mr Cruz himself all for around $35 AU including shipping.

I’m so excited I feel the only appropriate literary response is to mash the keyboard accordingly... Kjxzzzfusldeil.;Df4e809oiweprq198otdegpelaoedwreegvswb vn cb njkhgf,mnbvcuyj!!!!!!1!!!!
