Dustin Kensrue has just announced that he’ll be releasing a Christmas album. Presently am not sure whether to be excited or horrified. It seems like such a bland, passé move to make especially for a front man of a band that’s been so progressive lately.
Kensrue stated, “I’ve been wanting to do a Christmas record since before I even thought about putting Please Come Home together. I’ve always loved Christmas songs and searching out different versions of my favourite songs, so it was about time to try my hand at it.” Kensrue covers Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and O Holy Nigh among others.
In every capacity I’ve encountered Kensrue he’s tended to be a dour motherfucker and the idea of such festive ditties coming from the vocal cavities of the same man that penned some of the most deeply depressing tunes I’ve ever had the good fortune to mope around to, is a little disturbing.
Christmas covers need be reserved to those who can poke fun at Christmas, which afterall, has become less a spiritual affair and more an exciting opportunity to drink and eat to excess with those we love most.
More Oi To The World from No Doubt or The Vandals’ Christmas Time For My Penis, less lamenting turkeyless Tiny Tim’s tuberculosis. Ya hear me Kensrue? Spark up!
